Police in Trinidad and Tobago are looking for a group of thieves after security cameras caught them trying, and failing, to steal a cash machine using a stolen backhoe.
The footage shows at least four people struggling to control the digger as they tried to rip an ATM out of the ground. One of them, dressed head to toe in black with a poncho flapping behind him, trips over debris while trying to direct the machine, drawing comparisons online to Batman. After more than ten minutes of effort, the backhoe’s arm broke and the group gave up trying to load the machine onto a truck. They fled in a stolen vehicle, leaving the half-removed ATM sitting on the sidewalk.
The video spread quickly online, with local radio hosts and newspapers poking fun at the failed heist. It happened while the country remains under a state of emergency, which was recently extended as authorities deal with a rise in violent crime.
